Morphology

Introduction

Excoecaria agallocha, also known as blind-your-eye mangrove, is an evergreen tree of the Euphorbiaceae family. It secretes latex that can cause temporary blindness[1], but also has medicinal value, including antibacterial and anticancer properties[2-4]. As a member of the mangrove ecosystem, it also holds significant ecological value[5].
In 2024, the Hong Kong Biodiversity Genomics Consortium first sequenced and assembled the genome of Excoecaria agallocha, providing a molecular foundation for further understanding the biosynthesis of its phytochemical compounds[6].
